Mother's day has come and gone. My oldest son was here for a couple of days preceding Mothers's day. While here, he gave me the sweetest card. The card itself was nice, but inside was a handwritten note. He stated that when people ask him about his childhood, one particular scene camde to mind. It is the times when he and his brothers and sisters were around our bed (usually AFTER we had put them to bed..LOL, or early in the mornings). We are talking, bonding, and sharing. (I would add 'laughing"). It was amazing because, when I think of the children's time at home, this is the 'exact' memory that comes to my mind. Those were great moments, long since gone, and hopefully perpetuated in their own homes.
Being the genealogists that I am, I could not help but wonder what my families in the past remembered about their childhoods. If only, some of them had kept journals. I do have a few letters and/or post cards to rely on, but to actually know about childhood things would be a treasure to read. Do you keep journals for your children and your grandchildren to read...even generations to come? Think about it. Tell them about your life. Even if your childhood has past, what do you remember about it? Join a memoir writing group. Or there are some great journal reminder books out there that ask key questions for you answer that can spark some really great memories to write about. It can also bring up some painful ones. I know it would be hard, but even those have lessons for us to learn from you. Maybe we can live vicariously through you for a moment and make decisions that can change our life for the better. You never know what your experience can do for 'us'. Just think about it. Do you have any comments? Would love to hear from you. Hugs, Ann
