This is putting it in perfect order and starting revisions.
The summer has been more crowded than I had planned and work on the book didn't move at the pace I had hoped. My sister passed away. Took my daughter that had been hurt a year ago...took her and her family on a vacation. Church activities with my husband where he went in his duties on a state board, etc.
Dugan Holler was always on the back of my mind...talking to me and urging me to get their stories down. ;)
Today, I 'm writing on "Better Days in Dugan Holler" (working title). It feels great to visit this place in my thoughts. Maybe it's because this is where "I" grew up. Although the time frame was before my birth (this is set in the early 1940's), the land that I looked out upon as a child was much the same. There were smaller trees because the virgin forest was cut over (although not clear cut) during the 1940's. I walked across the land some with my family as a child, and I can still close my eyes and capture the feelings for a fleeting second of when I lived on Nubbin Ridge Road. I grew up with only a hand full of neighbors and ALL of them were boys. Mom kept me close to home. Although there were lots of us children (mom/dad had 17 but 11 were raised to grown), the closest to me was 7 years older. The others played outside more and I looked out the window wanting a friend to play with a lot of my life. I remember saying "when I grow up, I'm going to live in town so my children will have friends to play with." Who knew that I would someday long for the "Farm" and carefree days of my youth?
I had such a great time Tuesday in Leoma, TN at the historical building researching more on my next book. It is coming together. I'm getting excited!!!!!
The information fueled my imagination and made we want to find a cabin in the mountains and finish the book!!!! :)
I have submerged myself into old newspapers and archives at the Lawrence County Library on some very important inclusions into the next book. I have friends setting up some interviews with people that know things about past stories I will use only as a basis for my fictitious story set in Lawrence County, TN. I am having so much fun researching...but its time to get to writing more. (I have started...just need to move on from research.) Am I the only one that loves the research almost as much as the writing of the book?????
