IDIOMS: My husband, Sam, and I were talking about idioms that we grew up with and fully understand. Idioms are sayings that are often used very different from their literal meaning. They can make conversation colorful to say the least, especially when asked by a child, "what does that mean?" Often they are carried down through many generations, and are often used in my historical fiction books. We thought about how this generation may occasionally say them, but really have no idea of what they mean. I am going to suggest a few today and perhaps a few more as you respond. See if you can think of any that you completely understand but your children or younger people might not. :) I would like you respond to some of them (even question them if they are unfamiliar to you about how they are used). Hopefully, there are enough of us OLDER people that are on FB and using the internet to check here or my blog to take part. (LOL). Younger generation, ASK US WHAT THEY MEAN if you have no idea. Eating or living high on the Hog Pot called the kettle black "Roll us your sleeves" and get to work All roads lead to Rome Don't count your chickens before they hatch Barking up the wrong tree Either fish or cut bait Fly off the handle (BOY I heard that one a LOT) In high cotton scarce as hen's teeth If you sleep with dogs, you'll wake with fleas HAVE FUN: ((((HUGS)))) ANN See video trailers: Revenge and Bad Blood by Ann Robbins Phillips.
